The Pacific Brands Retail Group, operators of 7 Balboa Beach Club apparel stores, 5 Fox Racing Outlet stores, and 10 Billabong Outlet stores joined JDS in 1996, installing the first JDS retail management offering. Late in 2003, the management team at PBRG-1 made the decision to install JDS's WinRetail™ and Tradewind® products throughout their growing operation.

JDS was selected by Pacific Brands after an industry-wide search for a product to carry the Group forward as it expanded its operation. With eight users in the Irvine headquarters a majority of the workload is distributed amongst the stores.

When asked to comment as to why PBRG-1 settled on a continuing relationship with JDS, Mark Hyman, PBRG-1 President said:
