"We used dial up for credit, debit and check authorization for the longest time. Sometimes it was slow, depending on the dial up connection and the traffic on the line. Now, with DAS our authorizations take less than five seconds. Customers move through the cashier line quickly. We still have dial up as a backup, but rarely use it. Settlement has been the biggest money saver for us, however. With dial up each store had to settle its own accounts each night.
